Last updated: May 26, 2025 · Please read these terms carefully before using ConfessIt.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using ConfessIt ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform. These terms apply to all users, including visitors, registered users, and contributors of content.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in or affiliated with a recognized educational institution to use ConfessIt. By registering, you confirm that all information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
3. Anonymous Identity System
ConfessIt uses a proprietary anonymous alias system. Here's exactly how it works:
- Your email address is used only for account verification and account recovery. It is stored securely and never exposed to other users, moderators, or third parties.
- All posts, comments, likes, and saves are associated with your chosen anonymous alias — not your email or real name.
- The mapping between your email and your alias is stored in an encrypted format that our team cannot read or reverse in normal operations.
- Even if compelled by a court order, our ability to deanonymize users is technically limited by design.
- You may change your alias at any time from your Profile settings.
4. End-to-End Anonymous Architecture
We use a zero-knowledge-inspired architecture for content. Specifically:
- Confessions and posts are stored with only your Firebase UID as a reference — never your email.
- Your public alias is generated or chosen by you and has no technical link to your email in the publicly accessible database.
- Server logs are periodically purged and do not store identifiable information beyond what is required for security.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or third-party marketers.
5. Acceptable Use & Community Guidelines
To keep ConfessIt a safe, supportive space, you agree NOT to:
- Post content that is defamatory, hateful, harassing, or threatening toward any person or group.
- Attempt to deanonymize or identify other users through any means.
- Share personal information (phone numbers, addresses, full names) of other individuals without consent.
- Post sexual content involving minors, or any content that violates applicable laws.
- Spam, flood, or use automated tools to post content.
- Impersonate any person, institution, or organization.
- Post content related to self-harm promotion, illegal activities, or radicalization.
- Use the platform for commercial advertising or unsolicited promotions.
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these guidelines and to suspend accounts that repeatedly breach our community standards.
6. Content Ownership & License
You retain ownership of all content you post. However, by posting, you grant ConfessIt a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, and moderate your content within the platform. We do not claim ownership of your confessions or posts.
7. Data Storage & Security
We store your data on MongoDB Atlas, a secure cloud database with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase, which meets SOC 2 and ISO 27001 standards.
- All data transmissions are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
- Authentication tokens are short-lived Firebase JWT tokens verified using public-key cryptography.
- We do not store passwords — Firebase handles all credential management.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
8. Account Termination
We reserve the right to terminate or suspend accounts without notice for violations of these Terms. You may also delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Upon deletion, your confessions will be anonymized (your alias replaced with "Deleted User") and retained for community integrity purposes.
9. Limitation of Liability
ConfessIt is provided "as is" without any warranties. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy of content posted by users, or fitness for any particular purpose.
10. Mental Health Disclaimer
ConfessIt is a platform for expression and connection, not a mental health service. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a professional or a crisis helpline such as iCall (+91-9152987821) or Vandrevala Foundation (1860-2662-345). We may display mental health resources on sensitive content.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of courts in Hyderabad, Telangana.
